A Glencorse House wedding is outdoor bliss

This was the first time we had been to a Glencorse House wedding. We loved it at first sight. The venue has everything you need for a romantic outdoor feel with some creature comforts too. There is a Church on top of a hill surrounded by woodland, a huge pond among flowers and the mansion house, next to the large marquee.

The Location

Ros and Andrew were spot on to choose Glencorse House for their wedding. It is full of country romance and charm. The estate is large with a beautiful manor house, vast lawns and a large lake. The real gem in the crown is the Kirk on top of the hill. Glencorse Kirk dates back to the 17th century and the famous Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson worshiped there and indeed wrote about the Kirk and its woodland setting on a number of occasions.

“If my spirit returns to earth it will be found wandering through Glencorse Woods or sitting on the old bridge at Glencorse Kirk, the finest spot on earth”.

We agree with Stevenson on this. It is one of the finest spots on earth.

Before the ceremony

Andrew chose to get ready with his groomsmen at their flat in Edinburgh. It was all about the bacon rolls and the rugby that morning. Andrew is a huge rugby fan. It was much more sedate and elegant with Ros at her parent’s house. Champagne helped with the relaxing.

The Ceremony

It could be an overused word in this wedding but it was just really romantic. The Kirk at Glencorse house is sat upon a hill, surrounded by old woodland, moss and ivy. It’s like something from a fairytale. They had a humanist ceremony and because they are both from a seaside background they chose to have a sand mixing as part of their ceremony. It was a nice, personal touch.

The Celebrations

We had a great time taking the photos and meeting their friends and family there. This was a summer wedding and the weather was perfect for lawn games, and spending the wedding walking in the grounds of the venue. We had plenty of space to take photos and the marquee was set out immaculately for the dinner service. In the evening there was dancing inside and relaxing outside, under the trees and the night sky. We look forward to returning here soon.
