A destination wedding at the Ghillie Du
Ruth and Chris flew over from Seattle to get married in Edinburgh. They held their wedding in the Harry Potter-esque Ghillie Du which is filled with ornate gothic wood carvings, grand arched windows and a huge dance floor for ceilidhs in the evening.
We got to meet Ruth and Chris the week before their wedding. We arranged to do their pre-wedding session as soon as they arrived. It all had to be a bit last minute since they live in the US. Not to worry though, when we met we had a great time taking portraits up and down the Royal Mile
Their morning was relaxed and full of the excitement for the upcoming ceremony and the weather was absolutely fantastic, quite unusual for a typical Scottish day, but then this was no typical day! From the ceremony on to the evening we had a great time with them. Their wedding had an intimate feel even though there were lots of guests. The large contingent from the US added to the wonder and excitement for the day and when it came to the ceilidh in the evening they embraced the dancing with passion.
It was a wonderful experience to be part of their day.
- Their wedding was Harry Potter themed – having a Ghillie Du wedding enhanced their theme a lot.
- Iconic images of Edinburgh were a breeze here since Princes St Gardens are so close but don’t forget that you need to pay for the privilege of using the gardens for wedding photos (we can help with that)
- Ruth and Chris rented Air BnBs for their wedding preparations on the day. This meant they had a luxurious and convenient central city location to prepare in.
- The Ghillie Du has access to private gardens, perfect for family portraits.
